Shoreham

Shoreham means 'village at the foot of a slope' from the Saxon word 'scor' meaning 'slope' and 'ham' as 'village or homestead'. Shoreham is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

The parish church is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul and was built in the 14th Century in the site of an earlier Norman building. The tower was rebuilkt in 1775 following a fire. In 1886 the Chancel was rebuilt and the north east vestry/organ chamber added in a restoration by Woodye.

Shoreham station was opened on the line from Swanley to Bat & Ball. on 2nd June 1862.
