Hunton

Hunton is clearer in its first recorded form of Huntindone in the 11th Century; is the 'hill of the huntsman'. Its name comes from the Saxon word 'hunta' meaning 'huntsman' and 'dun' - 'hill'.

The church is dedicated to St. Mary and was built in the late 11th Century or early 12th Century, although there was a wooden Saxon chapel on the site. Many changes and additions were made up to the 19th Century.
