Crundale

Crundale is 'crundel' in Saxon meaning a 'chalk-pit or quarry'. It was first recorded in around 1100, when it appears as Crundala.

The ancient Norman parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Blessed Virgin, and is located some distance from the village centre. In 18th century the fine reredos with a scrolly pediment and altar rails were installed.
