Ringlestone [pronounced 'Ring-elst-own'] means 'ring of stones'. It is a hamlet and
should not to be confused with the Ringlestone suburb of Maidstone.
The Domesday
Book chronicles Ringlestone as Rongostone.
Ringlestone dates to before the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and is mentioned
in the Domesday Book of 1086. At the time of the Survey, the hamlet was smaller than
it is today and yet still deemed worthy of entry.
